Chabertia, bursa

 

  • The bursa is an expansion of the cuticle and only found in the male and is used to grasp the female during copulation
  • The bursa is supported by a number of fleshy rays and their characteristics  can be used to distinguish between species
  • The two long structures projecting from the bursa are spicules that are used during copulation
