Case Review (6 of 6)

Summing up the History in this Case

In essence, we have a pruritic problem that was seasonal and responded to steriods.

  • Allergies seem likely, particularly atopy, and allergy is known to be a predisposing factor in pyoderma

  • Atopy is also commonly associated with itchy ears and eyes which the owner has noticed

  • It seems likely that the allergy and/or the steroids may have predisposed the dog to superficial pyoderma

This would be a common scenario.  Now we need to examine the dog (general and dermatological examination) and determine whether his clinical status supports our suspicions, prior to devising a detailed diagnostic plan.
