The cementum covers the dentin of the root surface of the tooth.
It is histologically similar in structure to bone. It is thicker
apically than coronally and is capable of both necrosis and some
regeneration by cementoblasts. Both the periodontal ligament and
gingiva anchor fibres into the cementum.
