Note that there is a delay in the onset of abnormal postures shown by week old calves after rubber ring castration. Most of the initial response is abnormal standing postures followed by an increase in the time spent in abnormal lying postures reaching a peak 60 to 90 minutes after the ring was applied. Note that not quite all the calf's time is spent in abnormal postures - compare to the response in lambs. However, abnormal postures are still present three hours after treatment.
