Haemonchus - vulval flap

Group: Bursate, non-migratory, trichostrongylid nematode
Host species: Cattle, sheep, goats
Features:
  •  An example of a large vulval flap - best seen under high magnification
  • In other nematodes the vulval flap is absent or much small
  • The vulval flap controls access to the reproductive opening for either copulation or egg layinf
