Ascaris suum- worm burden from one pig

Group: Non-bursate, migratory ascarid nematode
Host species: Swine
Features:
  • Large, whitish worms without an obvious morphological features
  • Up to 40cm long
  • Large numbers of adults can cause obstruction to the gut or bile duct
  • Ascariasis results in poor feed conversion and can extend the fattening period of young pigs by up to 8 weeks
  • Similar to Parascaris of equines
