Ixodes ricinus - some stages that might be found on the host

This photograph shows three fed females, a male and a nymph. You might also find the larval stage on a host.
  • The female tick is the only stage that can become infected with Babesia divergens.
  • Larvae, nymphs and adults transmit the infection when they feed.
  • Males of I.ricinus do not feed and do not, therefore, transmit B.divergens
