T.foetus is a venereally transmitted multi-flagellate of cattle that causes abortion in cows. It can be found in vaginal mucus or preputial washings either by direct examination or growth in culture. It can also be diagnosed on a herd basis based on the detection of agglutinating antibody in vaginal mucus. It can be easily controlled through supervised breeding regimes or AI.
