Nodules (2

Clinical Tip on Nodules
Three tests are highly useful in nodular diseases:
-
Needle aspiration and cytology: may provide a rapid diagnosis
(but not always).
-
Excisional biopsy and histopathology: should diagnose neoplasia
if present and distinguish from inflammatory disease. Infectious
agents may be seen, especially with special stains.
-
Excisional biopsy and culture: aseptically collected tissue
can be macerated and inoculated onto various culture media if
infectious agents are suspected.
