The Dermatological Examination (3 of 3)

Specialised regions of skin such as the ears, the lips, the prepuce and vulva, the scrotum, the perianal region, the tail gland, and the pads and claws, are associated with particular diseases.  You need to understand the normal anatomy and physiology of these areas.

  • Examine the specialised skin carefully

  • Pay particular attention to the ears, examining the pinnae and the ear canals, and the feet (part the digits and examine between the pads). These are commonly affected in some animals, e.g. dogs, and lesions can be easily overlooked
