Graph showing the distribution in time of the activity of calves castrated at a week of age with rubber rings.

Robertson et al 1994

REQ - incidence of getting up and down, foot stamping, kicking and easing quarters (calves did not roll or jump)

------ REW incidence in control (handled only) calves did not exceed this dotted line.

Note the lower, slower onset and extended duration of the active response of calves compared with lambs. The peak response of one movement per minute occurs between 30 and 90 minutes after treatment.  The incidence of REW remained similar to values in control calves for the first 18 minutes and only returned to similar values more than 120 minutes after treatment.
