Graph showing the effectiveness of an anti-inflammatory drug in reducing the trembling behaviour shown by lambs after Burdizzo castration.Molony et al 1997
Fifty percent of lambs tremble for the first 6 min after castration with a Burdizzo, with trembling occurring for up to 30 minutes after treatment in some lambs. Some lambs trembled between 90 and 120 minutes after castration. Use of the anti-inflammatory drug, diclofenac, significantly reduced the time spent trembling in the first 30 minutes after castration and completely abolished the behaviour between 30 and 180 minutes after treatment. |
