Graph showing the change in diastolic and systolic blood pressure after rubber ring castration of nine week old lambs

The systolic and diastolic blood pressure for control lambs remained about 102:68 throughout the 240 minute measuring period.

In treated lambs, the systolic pressure rises faster and peaks earlier than the diastolic pressure.  The systolic pressure rises from a baseline of about 102 mm of mercury (Hg) to a peak of about 125 mm of Hg, 20 to 60 minutes after ring application.   Values (110 mm Hg) are still above baseline 240 minutes after ring application. The diastolic pressure rose from a baseline of 68 mm Hg to a peak of 93 mm Hg 60 minutes after ring application and slowly return towards baseline during the next three hours - value at 240 minutes was about 75 mm Hg.
