MSc(Master)/Diploma:
Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare

Welcome to the
Applied Animal Behaviour & Animal Welfare
MSc(Master)/Diploma website
This
MSc(Master)/Diploma was initiated by Professor D. Wood-Gush in
collaboration with his colleagues in the many Research Institutes and
University Departments around Edinburgh. It was first mounted in October
1990. The programme has a strong international reputation and has
received the support of many well-known animal welfare organisations in
the UK and in Europe, including the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals, Advocates for Animals, the British Veterinary Association
Animal Welfare Foundation, the St Andrew Fund, the University Federation for Animal
Welfare, various other animal welfare trusts, and also the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food (now Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) and the European Social Fund.
A particular strength of the programme is that it enables its graduates to gain
a very good overview of all up to date issues in the area of animal behaviour and welfare.
The programme is run by
Dr Christine Moinard, the Programme Director, with the assistance of the Programme Administrator, Mrs Willie van Wijde. Both the
Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and the Scottish Agricultural College are involved in this programme.
Each year we welcome some 25 students from different countries around the world. Students attending this postgraduate programme will benefit from excellent facilities and considerable expertise in animal behaviour and animal welfare matters. The University attracts a wide range of students from across the UK and worldwide, with one third of its full-time postgraduates coming from more than 100 countries from all over the world.
